There will be an exhibit of Civil War items from four historical organizations in town on Sunday, February 10, 2013 starting at 1:00pm, in the Community Room of the Main library. The exhibit will adjourn at 2:00pm for a program presentation on "Farmington in the Civil War", then resume when the program is finished at 3:00pm.
The exhibit will feature a uniform, a John Brown pike, a piece of the 16th Regt. flag, enlistment certificates, photos of soldiers, canteens and other small items, currency from the period, GAR records, and several items recently donated by families with ancestors who served in the war.
The program is the fifth in the "Our Town" series sponsored by the Friends in cooperation with the Farmington Heritage Alliance. It will focus on local connections to national events of the time, the men who served, and the effects of the war on the town. Speakers will be Cliff Alderman and Betty Coykendall, who said, "I hope that many residents will come and see what these organizations own; everyone has a few things, and collectively it is quite an impressive show. We also have several interesting stories to tell about local people and their experiences related to the war".
