Thank You!

It is with gratitude that the Friends of the Farmington Library thank the community for their generous support in their recent gift-giving of brand new books this holiday season. Giving Trees could be found in the Main Library and the Barney Branch from mid-November until December 19. An aggregate of 310 new books ranging in age from birth through high school age, were collected and distributed through Catholic Charities throughout the Hartford area. Lois M. Nesci, CEO, expressed her heartfelt thanks to the Friends for their continued effort and support in all they do.

The Friends of the Farmington Library are held in high esteem as each year they continue their outreach and effort on behalf of this charity chosen a number of years ago. Some parents of recipients now take an active role in sorting the books to be given. Thank you to all who have contributed in making this year’s collection of new books have a most positive result.

Book Sale Committee Thanks Volunteers, Donors and Buyers

Linda Chapron, Chair of the Book Sale Committee reports:

The Friends of the Farmington Library are pleased to report that they had a very successful Spring Book Sale which raised $16,000!

Over the three days of the sale hundreds of dealers, local library patrons and bibliophiles from afar scoured the tables holding more than 25,000 books, puzzles, games and media. On Opening Day, long lines of people began lining up at 9am for the opening at 2 pm! The Collectors Corner & Specials Collections area is always a very popular table (managed for more than 25 years by Sherra Palmer) and earned more than $1000 during this sale. The bag sale on Saturday afternoon was also very popular with many more people waiting for the 3 pm opening.

On Sunday many of remaining books went to several local & statewide charities.

Of course this sale would not be successful without the dozens of volunteers who worked the week of the sale as well as throughout the year. Over the years the Friends have amassed a huge database of interested people who enjoy working this event. The continued support and hard work of this group is gratefully appreciated. The Friends would also like to thank all those members of our community for their donations of books for which the success of all our sales is so dependent. A heartfelt THANK YOU to book donors and volunteers!

Our next sales are tentatively scheduled for:
October 15 - Kids & Cook Books
November 19 – Nearly New Books

If you were unable to shop this sale, the Friends maintain an on-going bookstore, the ‘BOOK NOOK’ located to the right of the circulation in the hallway to the Community Room. This area is re-stocked frequently throughout the week and features both fiction & non-fiction, hardcover and paperback books for adults & children as well as special seasonally appropriate materials.

The Friends of the Farmington Library are always seeking new members or volunteers for our activities. Please contact the library at 860-673-6791 or by email at:friends@farmingtonlibraries.org.
